Attaché: Error 'File in use access denied'

Error 'File in use access denied'

Updated over 3 months ago

If you are receiving this error, it means that the data files that the Attaché program uses are still held open or are accessed by another user or program (for example ODBC).

The causes for this could be:

  • Another user logged in using the same program, or a file lock that did not get released on one of the related data files.

  • Workstation anti-virus may not have proper exclusions in place.

  • The locked file is currently being accessed through a data transfer process in another 3rd party application.

  • A data file attribute may be set to “read-only” (This could potentially happen after a data migration or data restore).

Resolutions to clear the error

Logged in user or a file lock is activated that is locking the data file used for the required Attache program:

  1. Get all other users to log out of the Attache company with the error, then check if you can access the required Attaché program without error.

  2. To check this, go to Tools, Company, System, System Status task screen, and check how many users show as logged in from the Logged In Users area.

  3. If only one user logged into the company, exit the user and then restart Attache and attempt to access the program again.

  4. If the error re-occurs, then whilst no processing is taking place and no other users are logged in, restart the Attaché Database Service on the server by accessing the Windows Services application, then right-click the service Attaché Database Service and click Restart. (You may need to get your Network/IT support person to do this if you do not have access to the server).

Workstation antivirus software may not have proper exclusions in place

The data file is being accessed through the data transfer process in another application

  • Check to see if any other users are accessing Attaché through a 3rd party software or are in the process of importing data into Attaché at that time using Keystroke File Import (KFI).

A data file attribute may be set to “read-only”

  1. You can confirm the Attaché database Server from Tools, Company, System, System Status, Attache Database Server field.

  2. Speak to your IT/Network support person and ask them to check the read-only status on all the files in the AttacheServer folder.
