When using Attaché on Workspace (previously called Access Workspace), it's important to understand that there is limited storage space provisioned to your hosted servers. One of the biggest causes for running out of storage space is mismanaging your Attaché archive files. It is your responsibility to manage the quantity of archives to ensure there is enough space for the hosted server to continue operating at normal efficiency and without corrupting your Attaché database. If needed, you can purchase extra space to be able to store additional archives.
To remove archives from your hosted servers, you can either move them to your local environment or delete them. The space is then immediately available for use by the server. Note that there is no recycle bin for hosted servers. Anything you delete is permanently gone.
Copy archive files to your local environment or delete them
In Attaché, go to Tools, Company, System, Launch Windows Explorer.
Navigate to D:\Apps\AttacheDesktop\Archive
There is a folder for each company, where an archive has previously been created for the company. Navigate to one of the current live companies by double clicking on its archive folder.
In the folder, click on the Date modified column to sort the archives by the date they were created.
🤓Tip: You can highlight multiple folders by pressing Ctrl
on your keyboard and left-mouse click at the same time.
5. You can now either:
Cut + paste these files to your local environment, or
Delete the files without copying.
6. Repeat Steps 3-5 for each company
Managing your archives
It is up to each business how many archives to keep. Things to factor into this decision include:
Server space limitations.
Size of archive.
Level of redundancy required.
Importance of particular archives. For example, pre end of year and post end of year rollover archives may need to be kept.
An example archive policy could be:
7 days of each current company to be kept, one archive at the end of each day. Plus, two end of month archive to be kept for each current company. To be run on the last day of the month.
one archive to be kept of each historical company.
