Attaché Payroll (Australia): Super is calculating for under 18 year olds that have worked less than 30 hours

Updated over 2 months ago

For an employer contribution to calculate super correctly for an under 18-year-old, particular settings are required in the Employee Masterfile, as well as on the Employer Contribution pay element.

Ensure the following settings in the Employee Masterfile

  1. Go to Payroll, Masterfiles, Employee Details, Maintain.

  2. On the Personal Details tab, enter the employee's Date of Birth.

  3. On the Pay Details tab, enter an Employment Status of Casual.

  4. On the Pay Details tab, enter a Pay Frequency of Weekly.

Any other settings, such as Part Time and Fortnightly, etc. could cause the automatic calculation to be incorrect. Attaché will provide warnings via the Check Pays and Adjustment Pays report as follows:

  • Super for Casual U18, must be Weekly.

  • Super for Casual U18, must be Casual.

If you see the above warnings, you should check that the super on the Pay Details report is correct for those employees.

Ensure the following settings in a separate Employer Contribution for under 18s

  1. In Setups, Payroll, Employer Contributions, Maintain, select the employer contribution set up for under 18-year-olds.

  2. Check the Super for Casuals Under 18 box is ticked.

  3. Check that Min Hrs per Week has 30 entered.

  4. Other settings can be the same as your standard Employer Contribution pay element.
