The Database System Status tool allows you to check the record count, size and status of each selected table and index in the company database and create a report of the results which you can output to printer, screen or file.
By running this process on a regular basis (for example, weekly) you can check for errors in the database and, if necessary, return to a reasonably current backup. You can also run a database system status check at any time if you suspect that your data has been corrupted by hardware malfunction, power interruption, etc.
Ensure that you check all tables. Even if you suspect errors in a particular module, there may be errors in other tables as well.
📌Notes:
This process does not check for out-of-balance general ledger accounts. To check if you have general ledger accounts that are out of balance, use the Recalculate GL Balances and Recalculate GL Batch Headers tasks on the Tools, Company, Utilities menu.
Never run a Compress Database on data which has errors or wrong counts in the Integrity check. Attaché also recommends that you process a Database System Status/File Integrity Check on restored data before re-doing any work. Make sure you have your hardware, power supply etc., tested if the problems persist.
Run a Database System Status check
Exit all users from the Attaché Company you wish to check.
Go to Tools, Company, Data Checks, Database System Status.
Choose All (F5) to select all tables. This will select all Data and Index files.
Choose Accept (F9) to begin the status check.
When finished, the message Database System Status Complete is displayed.
If you wish to, you can print a report of the results select Print (F9) and choose whether to send the report to printer, screen or file.
Review the results on the screen. When the database system status check reaches the end and displays Ok in the Status column to the files displayed on the screen, then no errors have been detected.
📌Note: There is no need to page up to view every file. If an error was detected, then the database system status check will reposition to the display the file with the error.
If errors are detected, a message also displays in the Status column, alongside the affected table. If errors are found, restore your most recent backup and re-do all work since that backup was taken. See: Restore an archive backup file.
If you have been experiencing repeated problems, ensure that you run the database system status check again on the restored data before re-doing any work.
📌Note: If you select Stop (Esc) while the status checking is in progress, the check on the current table may not be completed. You may need to re-run the process to verify the status of this table.
If you are finished running the check, you can click the Close (Esc) button to exit the screen.
If problems persist
Have your hardware, power supply, etc. tested.
If you are still unable to resolve the issue, then please raise a new case online and reference the title of this article.
