Each workstation that uses Attaché server ODBC needs to have a DSN (Data Source Name) connection set up to access the Attaché database files. Attaché uses Windows Data Sources (ODBC) for this. Follow the steps below to set this up. If you are not sure or not familiar with any of the terms and descriptions listed below, please consult with your Network administrator or IT support person.
Window's 32-bit and 64-bit DSN's
Microsoft Windows has different ODBC DSNs for its 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems. You should use the correct DSN version that correlates to your Windows operating system type (32-bit or 64-bit). To check this:
Click the Windows button and type Control Panel.
Click System and note down the System Type from the Device specifications task area.
📌 Note: If you are using 32-bit Microsoft Office to access your Attaché data on 64-bit Windows, you need to use the odbcad32.exe ODBC DSN, which resides in the WINDOWS\SysWOW64\ directory.
🤓 Tip: Create a desktop shortcut to odbcad32.exe to save you having to navigate to the executable file every time.
Configuring Attaché Server ODBC Data Sources.
You will need to have installed the Attaché ODBC Server prior to following the steps below. Once this has been completed, to create a new Attaché ODBC DSN connection:
Click the Windows button and type ODBC.
Right click the relevant ODBC Data Sources (32-bit) or ODBC Data Sources (64-bit) option correlating with your Windows. Operating System type and click Run as Administrator. The ODBC Data Source Administrator (32-bit) or (64-bit) window appears.
Select the System DSN tab. A list of system DSNs will be displayed.
Select Add to create a new DSN.
From the list of drivers displayed, select the Attaché Server ODBC Driver 32 or 64 and click Finish.
Enter a name for the DSN i.e. Attache Payroll or Attache Accounts (whatever describes your Attaché Company connection best).
Complete details for the following fields below.
📌 Note: See Find Attaché technical information to obtain the details required in the table below marked with an asterisk (*).
