Annual Leave National Standards
Based on the National Employment Standards for annual leave, full-time and part-time employees are entitled to four weeks of annual leave, based on their ordinary hours of work.
Example 1: Jane is a part-time employee who works 20 hours per week for a year. During one year, she will accumulate 80 hours of annual leave (the equivalent of 4 weeks work for her).
Example 2: Peter is a full-time employee who works 38 hours per week for a year. During one year, he will accumulate 152 hours of annual leave (the equivalent of 4 weeks work for him).
It is recommended to set up one leave table for Annual Leave to accommodate Jane and Peter's leave entitlements.
To set up a leave table for annual leave as described above
Choose Setups, Payroll, Leave Tables, Maintain.
Type a Leave Accrual Code and Description for the Leave Table.
Set the Income Category to Annual Leave .
Set Display in and Calculate by to Hours. For more information on Calculate by, refer to: The Leave Table Calculate by setting.
Set Entitlement to 1 Hour.
Set Entitlement Period to 13.0357 Hours.
Set Entitlement Received on to Completion of Entitlement Period.
Complete remaining fields as required and choose Accept (F9).
📌 Note:
The entitlement Period is calculated based on a full-time employee accruing 152 hours in a year with 365 days working 38 hours per week according to Fairwork NES. The calculation is: 365 days per year / 7 days per week * 38 hours per week / 152 hours of leave pa = 13.0357 hours per 1 hour of leave.
It is recommended that if leave is set to Calculate by Hour, then Display in should also be expressed in Hours. Entitlements expressed in Days or Weeks will calculate based on the Hours per Day and Days per Week in the Employee Masterfile which could lead to misleading values.
If the Annual Leave table is set to Calculate by Hour
You will need to set the Elements of pay to Accrue in the Pay Elements tab. These are essentially the income categories that will allow you to link to the related Income Types in order for the leave tables to accrue leave.
