Attaché Payroll (Australia): Employee does not currently have a valid Tax File Number

Employee does not currently have a valid Tax File Number

Updated over 3 months ago

Attaché Payroll uses an algorithm provided by the ATO to validate numbers entered into the Tax File Number field. A valid tax file number (TFN) contains only values from 000000000 to 999999999.

Your Attaché software does not allow you to proceed with an invalid TFN. In the Employee Masterfile, Tax tab, if an invalid TFN is entered, you will receive a Tax File Number is Invalid warning message. Attaché Software recommends that you confirm invalid TFNs with employees.

The ATO has defined special-purpose TFNs (see the table below) which you can use to indicate the reason why an employee's TFN is missing. Read more on the ATO website.

If an employee is included in a Single Touch Payroll batch that has an invalid or a missing tax file number, they can use one of the above exception TFN numbers, if the employee circumstances match the condition.

The Tax File Number can be entered directly from within the Single Touch Payroll batch by going to the Employees area and clicking on the employee record with the error warning and from her you can enter in the Tax File Number and click the Save button to save the entry. You should then be able to re submit the batch.
