📌Note: There is a new version on ALEX version 5.4 that doesn't use Port 25 to send mail but uses the Microsoft Message Queue. See: Install Alex version 5.4.
The default AlexConnect setup uses Port 25 to send documents from your computer to the Attaché document management mail server. However, some businesses and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) close Port 25, thus forcing all emails to go through their own mail server.
If your business or ISP has closed Port 25, you need to change the server address (in Service Properties) so that AlexConnect uses your business’s, ISP’s mail server or online mail server (Attaché BI 3.5 or later) to dispatch documents.
If using your business's mail server additional setups may be required on your server to allow Alex to relay mail through it. Please ask your network administrator for assistance if this is the case.
To change the server address
To set up the Document Delivery Address Manager (DDAM) for sending documents via an online mail server:
Open the required DDAM by selecting Tools, Company, Document Management, Customer Delivery Address (or Supplier Delivery Address, or Employee Delivery Address).
Choose Edit, Service properties.
Set the server address to your mail server, for example: smtp.office365.com
Set your Privacy settings as desired.
Enter the Port Number from your email provider.
Enter your email Username and Password.
Click Email Verification to send a test message to the email address entered under Username. This allows you to check that the settings are correct.
Once the settings are correctly verified, a Verified label is displayed.
📌Notes:
The fax test tool under Tools, Company, Document Management, Test Connection to Attaché Online will not use these new settings. You must use the Email Verification button to test the settings and connection.
Alex servers will reject any documents which have been edited by SMTP mail servers. It is common practice to automatically add confidentially notices or other notes into an emails header or footer. Create an exception for the domain mailforalex.com to avoid emails being automatically rejected by Alex servers.
Alex is a send only mailbox, if a mail server attempts to validate the Alex mail server by verifying emails can be sent, relaying will fail.
Example rejection: Sender address rejected: undeliverable address: host server.mailforalex.com[xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] said: 550 No such user (Relaying denied)
