Attaché Payroll (Papua New Guinea): New tax scales for January 2023

Instructions for downloading and updating the new tax scales for Papua New Guinea as of January 2023

Updated over 3 months ago

New tax scales for Attaché Payroll in Papua New Guinea came into effect from 1 January 2023.

The new tax scales approved by the IRC on 23 December 2022 that include an increase to the salary and wages tax (SWT) tax-free threshold to K20,000 can now be downloaded from this article.

If you have updated your tax scales using a file before 31 January 2023, you should check you have the correct tax scales as per step 3 in Automatic Import Tax Scales, below.

Downloading new tax scales

📌Note: If you are an Access Cloud Hosted client, the most recent tax scales will be automatically applied to your server within 24 hours of being released. Please skip to Importing new tax scales (below).

To download tax scales via the Attaché menu:

  1. Choose Setups, Payroll, Tax Scales, Download Tax Scales from Web.

  2. When asked 'Do you wish to download new tax scales from the Attaché website?' choose Yes.

  3. The message "New tax scales have been successfully downloaded..." is displayed when the download is complete.

If this does not work, then proceed to Manually Import New Tax Scales below.

Automatically Import New Tax Scales

You should import these tax scales before processing pays with a Date Paid on or after 1 January 2023.

To import (activate) the new tax rates:

  1. Choose Setups, Payroll, Options, Payroll Options and then the Tax Details tab. (In older versions of Attaché Payroll, Page Down to the second screen.)

  2. Attaché recognises that new tax scales are available and displays a message asking if you want to import them. Choose Yes to import the new scales into the current company.

  3. To check that the tax scales have updated properly, choose the Tax Details tab again and check that the Effective for Payments Date field is set to 05/01/2023. (Do not change this date for any reason.)

    • If NOT 05/01/2023 then the new tax scales have not downloaded. Use the Manual method to update your tax scales below.

  4. If you have more than one payroll company, log in to each company and carry out steps 1 to 3 above.

Manually Import New Tax Scales (if required)

If you have not been able to update your tax scales automatically as covered above, then refer to: Manually update tax scales with a tax file.
