To add an asset:
Go to Masterfiles, Assets, Maintain.
Select New Asset F7.
Fill in fields as necessary. The minimum to fill in is:
Asset cost.
GL set code.
Purchase date.
Method for depreciation.
Depreciation rate.
Review other assets to determine any other fields required by the particular company's set up. For example: Department, etc.
Save the asset by pressing F9 Accept:
Either select the newly entered asset in the Masterfile and press F6 Auto-activate this asset OR,
Exit the Masterfile and select Transactions, Assets, Create
Ensure the Activate tab is selected.
Select the asset's Code either by typing it in or pressing F2 Quick Find and selecting it.
Fill in the details on the Activate transaction screen and press F9 Accept when finished to activate the asset.
📌Note: The difference between the two methods of activation at Step 5 is that the first is faster and is often used when entering many assets either manually or via KFI (Keystroke File Import). The second method allows you to enter a reference and comment for the Activation. Both methods result in an activation transaction for the asset.
