Attaché Payroll: Express Leave updates August 2025

Updated over 2 months ago

What's New

See the details below for the new features in Express Leave, including Fortnightly Work Templates, ability to generate payroll data filtering by employee name, an increase to 5MB in size for files attached to a leave request, and the ability to navigate between timesheet ranges within the timesheet entry screen.

Ability for setup and assign fortnightly templates in Express Leave

We are thrilled to announce an exciting new feature inside Express Leave: the ability to generate Fortnightly Work Templates. This enhancement aligns with our commitment to meeting evolving workplace needs, addressing employee feedback, and enabling companies to offer innovative work-life balance solutions for their teams, including options like the 9-Day Fortnight.

The key benefits of Fortnightly Work Templates

This new capability allows employers to create, assign, and customize fortnightly work arrangements directly within Express Leave, offering:

  • Flexibility for Employees: Providing adaptable work arrangements, such as the 9-Day fortnight, tailored to individual needs without compromising service levels or operational coverage.

  • Streamlined Template Management: HR managers or administrators can easily generate and assign templates, aligning with the employee’s pay frequency within Express Leave.

  • Improved Employee Satisfaction and Retention: By accommodating modern workplace preferences, organizations can build stronger teams that are both engaged and productive.

  • As an Express Leave administrator user, you can access the Company Admin, Templates menu, and there is a new Select Pay Frequency field, and you can select Fortnightly from this field.

As a preliminary recommendation, we suggest identifying all employees who currently have an active Work Days template in Express Leave and are paid fortnightly. An Express Leave Administrator user can determine this from the Company Admin, Manage Users menu. The Work Days Column for each employee will display the custom template name, and you can click the Edit link to take you to the Standard Work Hours (Templates) screen (also accessed from Company Admin, Templates).

Please email our Product Team [email protected] if you would like to have Fortnightly templates enabled.

After our Product team has enabled Fortnightly templates for you, fortnightly paid employees with specific hours each fortnight will each need to be reassigned to a fortnightly template. See: Set up and use Fortnightly Work Days Templates in Express Leave.

Ability to generate payroll data by Employee Name

In response to customer feedback around the difficulty in producing payroll timesheets and leave requests for just terminated staff members, we have added the ability to generate payroll data inside a non-standard pay period to a single or multiple employees. This should allow payroll officers a quicker and seamless payroll processing journey from Express Leave into Attaché Payroll.

Ability to Attach up to 5MB files inside Express Leave

In response to customer feedback around the size limit of attachments and the existing defect around comments not displaying, the Express Leave system has been improved to allow up to 5MB files. You can attach the file types of pdf, jpg, jpeg, bmp and png.

When a user adds a file over the 5MB limit you will receive an updated message: File exceeds the size limit. Please select a file that is 5MB or smaller.

Ability to Navigate between ranges inside the timesheet entry screen

In response to customer feedback around the limited number of weeks inside Express Leave to navigate between on the My Timesheets page, we have provided a navigation tab alongside the fortnightly template generation to allow employee to automatically update more than the scheduled number of periods. The period ranges available inside my timesheets will remain the same.

If an employee has entered a timesheet or allowance with hours and uses the navigation bar at the top of the page to switch between weeks inside the create timesheet screen, the system will autosave the data entered and save the document as draft to allow users to return at a later time and enter additional information on their timesheets before submission.

The weeks are based on calendar year, and for the use of fortnightly timesheet entry will have odd weeks as Week 1 of the Fortnightly Template and even weeks as Week 2 of the template.
