Create a new General Ledger Account code

Follow the steps below to add new general ledger account code including copying the settings of an existing account.

  1. Go to General Ledger, Masterfiles, Accounts, Maintain.

  2. In the Account Code field, click Find (F2) and select a similar account to the new account you want to create so you can copy settings of that account.

  3. Select existing account, Press Enter on selected code.

  4. Press F3 to cancel modify mode.

  5. In Account Code, enter new account code and tab (Note that the details of the previous account code are retained).

  6. Enter description/name in Description.

  7. In Account Type, click the magnifying glass and select the type required. Note: this code is used with your report design to specify in the report structure which are your Posting, Bank, Control, Total, Heading, and Capital accounts.

  8. In Debit/Credit, select Debit if it is a Debit account or Credit if it is a credit account.

  9. Lookup and confirm account in Add-to Account 1.

  10. Lookup and confirm account in Add-to Account 2 if this applies.

  11. In End of Year Indicator, choose the required option (Reset, Retain, Closing Balance, Opening Balance, Closing Stock, Opening Stock). Note:

    • Reset: The opening balance for the new year will be zero.

    • Retain: The closing balance will be brought forward as the opening balance for the new financial year.

  12. In Report Format, choose Group.

  13. Click Accept F9 to save and create the account.
